Humboldt Rose Society

Clustered in the shadows of magnificent redwoods along California's northern coast, Humboldt County has often been called one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Here, within walking distance of the Pacific Ocean roses bloom and foliage thrives under the thumbs of some of the region's most dedicated and ingenious gardeners.

In our moist climate, there are many challenges facing the rosarian. The Humboldt Rose Society is here to help and to celebrate the many successes that make our land so beautiful. We are a non-profit organization affiliated with the American Rose Society to promote interest in all aspects of rose horticulture through rose shows, educational programs, garden tours and other rose related projects. Whether you are a beginning rose grower or a veteran of the horticultural wars, the Humboldt Rose Society has something for you.

Rose Mini-Show, July 8th

The Annual Rose Show in early June, with many lovely entries, was somewhat dampened by the excessive rains of the weeks prior to the show.  The July 8th monthly meeting of the Humboldt Rose Society will provide another, but limited, opportunity for members and the community to come together and share the blossoms that are now coming forth. Community members are urged to bring blossoms, sprays, and arrangements. Click here for more information.

Update on Ryan House Gardens

On April 2nd, Deborah Giraud and her Master Gardener students spent their class time working in the garden. The grass was mowed, the cottage garden rototilled, and the perimeter of the formal garden was planted with baby boxwoods. Shortly after that work was done, members of the rose society spread manure over the cottage garden and then covered it with a thick layer (6 bales) of rice straw.
