Rose Mini-Show Provides a Second Chance to Show & View Roses.
The Annual Rose Show in early June, with many lovely entries, was somewhat dampened by the excessive rains of the weeks prior to the show. The July 8th monthly meeting of the Humboldt Rose Society will provide another, but limited, opportunity for members and the community to come together and share the blossoms that are now coming forth. The categories for entries are Arrangements - provide your own materials Any rose in a bowl - provide your own bowl Hybrid Teas Floribundas Polyanthas Sprays (from shrubs, climbers, or any other source) Minifloras (Bottle "vases" will be provided for the individual entries.) The Best of Show will be chosen from the best in each category. Community members are urged to bring blossoms, sprays, and arrangements. If you know the name of your entry/entries, please provide that information, but don't let not knowing the name keep you from bringing an entry. Knowledgeable rosarians can help determine the name and category if you're not sure. Tips will be provided to help participants know specific things to look for, and then all participants will judge and vote, determining a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each category. Then the Best of Show Award will be selected from the 1st place winners. Even those with no roses to enter are encouraged to attend. You may find a special rose or several roses that you'd like to include in your garden. You may make a choice for your garden based on the fragrance of a particular blossom. It's a good time to learn which roses do well in our various micro-climates. Come, join in the fun and camaraderie and beauty. Refreshments will be provided. Questions about the mini-show: 771-9585.
