FameRose of the Month #16
By Gaird Hamilton
Fame

The story of how we came to grow the grandiflora, Fame”, contains a good lesson in learning which roses do the best in our climate by looking at roses grown by the other rose society members.  A few years ago, our Summer rose tour visited the garden of Jackie Hubbard where I saw that one rose stood out over all of the others on a healthy nice sized bush covered with dark bright pink roses.  I asked about the rose and Jackie said that it was “Fame” and it was a great rose in her yard.  Since Pat and I have hundreds of roses, we didn’t manage to get one that Winter.  The next Summer we had occasion to go by Jackie’s place again, and once again “Fame” lit up her back yard in a most lovely display.

We bought the rose and have never regretted it.  “Fame”, not only is one of our most often blooming roses, it also won us a trophy as “King of Show” at a recent rose show.  It is excellent and very long lasting in bouquets or arrangements, though it looks so nice on the bush that you may not want to cut the blooms off.  Excellent glossy green foliage, on a healthy growing, fast repeating, gorgeous blooming rose.  What more could you want?
